On 14 Feb 2024 Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine military forces have targeted Russian Naval surface ship Caesar Kunikov. The ship is named after Soviet Naval Infantry officer Tsezar Kunikov .The Caesar Kunikov is part of Russian Black sea fleet .According to reports Ukrainian forces used indigenously built Magura V5 drones against Caesar Kunikov which resulted the drowning of Russian surface ship. A video was released by Ukrainian officials which showed Magura V 5 with high maneuverability headed towards ship and explosion occurred after contact with the ship.

Magura V 5 (Maritime Autonomous Guard Unmanned Robotic Apparatus V-type) is complete unmanned naval vehicle capable of performing different tasks like surveillance, reconnaissance, patrolling, search and rescue and can do combat missions. Magura V 5 have capacity to carry warhead of almost 300 kg and has an active range of 800 km.Only Ukrainian authorities know the exact number of Magura V 5 drones.

Design of Magura V5 USV

Magura V 5 Unmanned surface vehicle is jet skis powered drone with total length of almost 5.5m.Magura USV has total width of 1.5m. The hydrodynamic hull and smooth profile of the V5 allow it to proceed stealthy with good maneuverability. Magura V5 USV is also equipped with advanced imaging technology and sensors. The Magura V5 has never specific equipped slips and can be launch from anywhere with minor physical effort due to its size.

Electronic systems of Magura V 5 USV (Unmanned surface vehicle)

Despite economic hurdles and war with Russia Ukrainian government managed to integrate Magura V5 with latest electronic systems. Magura V5 has autopilot system, video subsystems, with the addition of night vision, extra communication modules, and a warhead, Magura V5 has   ground-based autonomous control station, a transportation and storage system, and a data center.

Magura V5 drone can be controlled via a wireless mesh network, satellite communication, or “autonomously”. The additional systems of USV includes dual-view electro-optic system with a gyroscope, marine radar, and laser rangefinder. The drone is integrated with highly advanced camera which provides actual combat awareness to operator.
